Family Home Agency
A home is more than just a house. It’s a foundation in which we build meaningful connections and share our lives with the people we call family. At California MENTOR, we help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live in private, family homes nestled in communities throughout the state.
Our Family Home Agency (FHA) programs match individuals who want to be part of the community with nurturing caregivers, who we call Mentors. In a Mentor’s home, individuals can develop relationships that help them grow and enjoy all that life has to offer. That’s why hundreds of Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families have turned to California MENTOR’s FHA programs.
FHA programs change lives through personalized supports that include:
- Around-the-clock, personalized support in family homes
- Life skills development
- Assistance with daily activities
- Advocacy services
- Behavioral supports
- Opportunities for structured activities and day programs
- Program evaluation & quality assurance
- Family involvement and support
- Community integration
- Medication management oversight
- Clinical supports
- 24-hour, on-call support from the California MENTOR team
It’s All About Relationships
In our FHA programs, we look at the interests, skills and personalities of individuals and Mentors in order to create that perfect match—one that leads to meaningful, long-term relationships.
Backed by our clinical experts and experienced human services professionals, our Mentors provide individuals with personalized services and countless opportunities to take part in everyday activities of family life, such as:
- Learning new skills
- Socializing with family and friends
- Managing household chores
- Discovering new hobbies
- Improving independence
- Participating in community events
Successful Matches
Individuals are referred to our FHA programs by California’s Regional Centers and carefully matched with a Mentor based on social and personal interests, as well as medical and vocational needs. Our team works together with each person, their family, our Mentors, and professionals at the Regional Center to create successful matches and develop Individual Service Plans (ISP) for each person we support.
Our FHA programs are not a one-size-fits-all approach. We offer support for a range of medical and behavioral needs and meet preferences relating to location, hobbies, family size and much more.
Our Mentors are carefully selected to provide safe and supportive homes. They are teachers, advocates and friends who help individuals build lasting relationships and live full lives in the community.
