Family Behavioral Services
Being a parent is a rewarding and challenging experience. For parents raising a child with a developmental disability, there are special challenges that require knowledge, support and patience.
At California MENTOR, we’re here to help. We’ve been providing Family Behavioral Services since 1999, and know that the needs of your family are unique. No matter your situation, our flexible program can provide the resources to help you and your family grow together.
Education for Parents
We offer a range of educational resources to help prepare you for the behavioral challenges and specialized needs that may come with caring for a child with a developmental disability. Our professional team will help you manage your child’s challenging behaviors and keep your family together. The services we provide are delivered in a variety of settings.
Family Behavioral Services may include classes on the following topics:
- Managing Behavior
- Troubleshooting Behavior
- Potty Training
- Body Awareness
- Safety
- Social Skills Classes for Teens
Assessment and Intervention
Following completion of a class, you may choose to schedule an in-home assessment with one of our experienced behavior specialists. These specialists observe your child and evaluate how your family responds to changes in behavior. We then work with you to create a plan to strengthen your ability to positively address common behavior challenges, such as:
- Tantrums
- Difficulty following directions
- Resistance to change
- Repetitive behaviors
- Difficulty with daily living skills
Depending on how your child responds, we may suggest that you and your family make adjustments to your daily routine, whether it be by setting firm limits or creating a system of rewards.
