In celebration of Autism Awareness Month, California MENTOR’s Eureka Family Home Agency hosted a dance to celebrate the differences and similarities of those with Autism. The event welcomed members of the community to attend and enjoy in the festivities that included music, food, art and fun!

Attendees were able to purchase food and drinks, with proceeds being donated to The Studio–a local program dedicated to help each person reach their highest level of artistic achievement and encourage personal growth, self-reliance and self-esteem through the creative process. Concession items were donated from local businesses, which was an amazing way to see the community come together in support of Autism Awareness.

The main attraction was the dance floor where people boogied down while a DJ pumped out the tunes! In addition to the dance room, there was an art room where painted puzzle pieces created by those we serve were displayed. During the following weekend the pieces were put together, creating a completed puzzle, and displayed at a local art event. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter, music and smiling faces from all who were there. Friends celebrated with one another while new friendships were created.

The dance was such a success that at the end of the night one dancer exclaimed with a huge smile, “Are you guys going to be doing this again next year?”
